2012 Bentley Continental GT3 Concept
Bentley unveiled the new race car concept 2012 Bentley Continental GT3 which will be specially designed for the FIA GT3 European Championship. The new GT3 race car concept will be racing in the 24-hour marathons starting in 2013 and will be joining the circuit to rival other race car like Alpina, Aston Martin, and Porsche.
The automaker say that the body concept of 2012 Bentley Continental GT3 is 95 percent completed and has been approved by the FIA. Bentley also announce that this model will be powered by 6.0-liter W12 engine, but can also be replaced with V8 in the coming months.
Unfortunately, Bentley not yet announced the output detail for this GT3 concept, but expect to see a figure somewhat less than the GT Speed’s 616 horsepower.
In the body design, the GT3 Concept needs to undergo a significant drop in weight considering its rivals in this category only weigh about 2,755 lbs. By comparison, the standard Continental GT Speed weighs an agonizing 5,478 lbs. The luxury racer will also feature a rear-wheel drive chassis in accordance with the regulations, state-of-the-art motor-sport hardware, and a comprehensive aerodynamic package
This race car would have to drop all of its luxurious features found in the standard model’s interior and adopt a full race cage and carbon fiber shell seats to participate in these races. The large rear wing and front bumper will be made of carbon fiber and the entire body will consist of lightweight materials.
The 2012 Bentley Continental GT3 Concept development will continue over the coming months in the build-up to the start of a test program in 2013.
