2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible
After unveiled GT500 Coupe, Ford officially released the Convertible model for the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 at 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The new Shelby GT500 Convertible will be produced at the AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Just like the Coupe model, 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible will be powered by 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine which can produce maximum 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. If the buyer opts for the additional Performance Package, they will get a car that is nearly 3.5 seconds faster on the Sebring International Raceway when compared to previous models. However, the bad news is that Ford has opted to limit the top speed to only 155 mph, so if you expected to hit the same 200 mph as with the coupe, you can expect to be sorely disappointed.
The new Shelby GT500 Convertible 2013 can be ordered with the SVT Performance package, which comes bundled with a Torsen differential, 19-inch painted forged-aluminum front wheels, 20-inch painted forged-aluminum rear wheels, 265/40R19 front and 285/35R20 rear tires, Bilstein adjustable dampers, unique rear springs, unique instrument cluster and unique gearshift knob.
GT500 Convertible will carry all the design elements from the coupe model, meaning you will get the same aggressive and sporty car, in a topless version of course. The Shelby GT500 is distinguished from the other Mustangs in the line-up by a more aggressive exterior look with a signature coiled Cobra badge on the front grille and front fenders. It also separates itself with a unique aluminum power dome hood with functional heat extractors and unique Shelby front and rear fascias, rear diffuser, and decklid spoiler. Both coupe and convertible versions come with racing stripes on both the top and the sides with 19-inch painted forged-aluminum wheels rolling at the bottom.
On the interior, GT500 gets leather sport buckets w/racing stripes coordinated to the exterior stripes and Alcantara Suede accents. Other options include an electronics package, Shaker pro audio system, Recaro sport seats, voice-activated navigation and choice of a white tape stripe or Oxford White racing stripes.
The new 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible will go on sale this summer. Price will start from $59,995 including a $795 destination charge. $60,445, including a $900 destination charge (plus $3,495 for extra SVT Performance package). While its main competitors, Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible come with 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet 6.2-liter V8 engine priced at $60,445, including a $900 destination charge.
