2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
Vokswagen officially released first official photo and specification detail for the new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible model ahead its debut at Los Angeles Auto Show in November. This is the third generation of VW Beetle Convertible or cabriolet model which has been released for the first time in 1949 and continued in the series of 2003.
As the 2012 Beetle Coupe model, the new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible will also available in several engine options. The entry-level models will be powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder which generate 170 hp, more up-level Beetle Convertibles will features a turbo 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder deliver 200 hp and 2.0-liter TDI turbo-diesel deliver 140 hp.
For the transmission, a six-speed automatic is standard on the base 2.5-liter engine, while the TSI and TDI variants have a choice of six-speed or six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearboxes. According to the manufacturer, the Beetle Convertible TDI scores 41 mpg highway with manual gearboxes.
VW decided to stick with a traditional soft-top rather than incorporate a folding hardtop on the car. When the top is down, it lies flat, giving good rear visibility. Although the top looks compact when furled, it’s actually wide and long when in place, an action that takes a little over 10 seconds at the touch of a button.
On the interior, the 2013 VW Beetle Convertible retains the design cues that have made the latest Beetle such a hit with consumers, such as the body-color dashboard and the stylish gauges and trim. The spacious cabin has space for four full-size adults and is able to carry plenty of luggage: a fold-down split rear bench seat increases the practicality even further.
In term of safety, the automaker has developed an Automatic Rollover Support System. Two roll-over bars are concealed behind the back of the rear bench seat, activated by the computer that deploys the airbags in the case of a crash.
Along with the fixed A-pillars, they provide effective protection for the occupants of all four seats within milliseconds. Driver and front passenger combined head-thorax airbags are also among the standard equipment.
The new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible will make its world premiere at 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. In Germany market, this model can be ordered beginning in November 2012 with prices starting at €21,350.
